This Section of the Safe and Drug-Free Environments Focus Area will provide information and research on drug abuse and violence prevention programs. This area will also provide highlights and summaries of recent research studies and/or articles that focus on safe and drug-free environments. Research-Based Drug Abuse Prevention Programs. To assist people working in prevention, the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health, in cooperation with the scientists who conducted the research, have prepared the following descriptions of some programs that have been studied scientifically. Each has been developed as part of a research protocol and tested in a family, school, or community setting over a reasonable period with positive results.
